Terms of Use

These terms are the agreement between you and PlatePal for use of the app and website. Please read them before you create an account — they explain what we do, what we ask of you, and how membership and billing work.

Last updated 29 October 2026

1. Agreeing to these terms

By creating an account, using the free features or paying for a membership, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use PlatePal.

2. What PlatePal is — and what it is not

PlatePal is an educational nutrition and habit-building service. It gives general guidance grounded in the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating, NHMRC alcohol guidelines and published food-composition data, and it lets you log meals, track habits and receive chef-curated menus.

PlatePal is not a medical service, a diagnosis, or a substitute for advice from your doctor, dietitian or other health professional. Do not delay seeking medical advice because of something you read in the app. If you have a medical condition, are pregnant, take medication or have a history of disordered eating, speak to a qualified professional before changing your diet.

3. Eligibility and your account

You must be at least 18 years old and provide accurate information to use PlatePal. You are responsible for keeping your password secure and for activity on your account, and you should tell us promptly if you think it has been used without your permission.

The guidance we give depends on the information in your profile. If your allergies, health conditions or goals change, update your profile — an outdated profile can produce unsuitable suggestions.

4. Free features and memberships

The free plan gives you tips and your two-minute assessment. HandyPal adds meal plans, recipe advice and exercise advice, and SuperPal adds a personal assistant, tailored chef menus and meal plans, body tracking and exercise advice.

What each membership includes is described on our pricing pages and may be refined over time. Where we add to a plan, you pay no more for it.

5. Billing, renewals and cancellation

  • •Memberships are billed in advance, in Australian dollars, on a recurring monthly basis through Stripe.
  • •Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each period at the price shown when you subscribed, until you cancel.
  • •You can cancel at any time from your membership page. Cancelling stops future renewals; your plan stays active until the end of the period you have already paid for.
  • •If a payment fails we may retry it, and we may pause paid features until it succeeds.
  • •We do not store your card details — Stripe does.

6. Price changes

We may change membership prices. If we do, we will give you at least 30 days' notice by email, and the change applies to your next renewal, never to a period you have already paid for. You can cancel before the new price takes effect.

7. Refunds

Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, including any right to a remedy if a service is not delivered with due care and skill. Outside those rights, charges for a period already started are generally non-refundable, but if something goes wrong write to us — we would rather sort it out than leave you unhappy.

8. Acceptable use

Please do not:

  • •use PlatePal for anyone other than yourself, or create accounts for other people;
  • •copy, scrape, resell or redistribute our content, menus or data;
  • •attempt to access another member's account or data, or interfere with the security or operation of the service;
  • •upload unlawful, misleading or harmful content, or content you do not have the right to share;
  • •use the service to give medical or nutrition advice to others as if it were our guidance.

9. Content you submit

Your profile, logs, photos and notes belong to you. You give us permission to store and process them so we can run the service for you — for example, to recognise a meal in a photo, calculate your score and show your history.

We will not publish your photos or logs, or use them in marketing, without your explicit permission.

10. Our content

The recipes, menus, guidance, scores, design and software behind PlatePal belong to us or our licensors. You may use them for your own personal, non-commercial purposes while you have an account. You may not copy them into another product or service.

11. Chef-curated menus and professional guidance

Our paid plans may include menus designed by chefs and guidance reviewed by qualified nutritionists. Menus are prepared in professional kitchens and may contain allergens. You remain responsible for checking ingredients against your own allergies before you eat.

Where a membership includes access to a private chef or a lifestyle coordinator, response times and availability are agreed with you directly and are not a medical or emergency service.

12. Third-party services

Payments are handled by Stripe and some features rely on other providers (for example AI services and email delivery). Their own terms and privacy policies apply to those services. We are not responsible for third-party services we do not control.

13. Availability and changes

We work hard to keep PlatePal available, but we may need to interrupt it for maintenance, updates or reasons outside our control. Features may change, be added or be retired; where a change materially reduces what you get on a paid plan, we will tell you and offer a fair remedy.

14. Disclaimers

Nutrition values are estimates based on published food-composition data and the portions you log, so they can differ from a laboratory analysis. Scores and warnings are guidance, not guarantees of any health outcome. Individual results vary, and no nutrition service can promise weight loss, improved health or a longer life.

15. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, or loss arising from decisions you make based on general guidance in the app. Where our liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to resupplying the service or refunding the amount you paid us in the previous 12 months.

Nothing here excludes or modifies guarantees, rights or remedies you have under the Australian Consumer Law.

16. Suspending or ending access

You can close your account at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you seriously or repeatedly breach these terms, if we are required to by law, or if we stop offering the service — in which case we will give you reasonable notice and refund any period you have paid for but not received.

17. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Queensland, Australia, and you and we submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of that state.

18. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We will publish the new version here with a new date and, for significant changes, email you at least 14 days before they take effect. Continuing to use PlatePal after that means you accept the updated terms.
